HISTORY OF ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH

St. Nicholas Greek Canadian Community of Toronto was established in 1971.
The original St. Nicholas Church was on the northeast corner of Warden and Sheppard Avenues in Scarborough.
Tragedy struck in 1979 and the Church was destroyed by fire. Shortly thereafter, an empty lot with great potential was discovered at 3840 Finch Avenue East.

A dream then began, the building of a Traditional Greek Orthodox Church modeled after ancient Byzantine Architecture started being constructed. This Basilican Church with a Dome is considered one of the most beautiful Churches in the GTA.

The New St. Nicholas Church officially opened its doors on December 4th, 1983. The Baptism of Bobby Vitouladitis, being the first one in our Church, took place on December 5th, 1983. Our Church was Consecrated on May 15th, 1994 by His Eminence Archbishop Sotirios of Toronto, Canada, the Ministry of the Rev. Fr. Nicholas Alexandris and the Presidency of Mr. George Koccoris.

We welcome everyone to this beautiful little piece of heaven on earth we call,
ST. NICHOLAS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH.

ON THE THIRTEENTH OF MAY, 1988 HIS ALL HOLINESS BARTHOLOMEW A ARCHBISHOP OF CONSTANTINOPLE, AND ECUMENICAL PATRIARCH, MADE HIS HISTORICAL VISIT AND BLESSED THIS CHURCH OF ST. NICHOLAS TORONTO ONTARIO
